CIACLA is a non profit 501(c)(3) arts organization that promotes Contemporary Irish Culture and supports local communities in Los Angeles through a multidisciplinary diverse programme in collaboration with local and international cultural partnerships. In a saloon town such as San Francisco, the bartender plays a crucial role. Confessor, friend, sounding board — the man or woman behind the plank sees to it that our needs are met with elegance, grace and often wit. They see humanity at its best and most convivial, but also offer a nod and a welcome to the lonely. In this Examiner weekly feature, we talk to some of our local bartenders to find out. Made fresh from scratch daily, our menu offers a wide array of classics – both Irish and local.
The Irish Film Festival Los Angeles

Emma is an accomplished filmmaker, writing, directing, and producing award-winning films. Her second short, ‘Sound & Colour’, stars Alison Oliver (Conversations with Friends). Emma co-founded Pale Rebel Productions, where she produced the dark comedy feature ‘Redemption of a Rogue’ (Palm Springs, Glasgow, Best Film at Galway FF). Pale Rebel’s second feature, ‘It Is In Us All’, (SXSW and IFTA awarded) starred Cosmo Jarvis & Claes Bang. CIACLA’s Irish film festival in Los Angeles is a wonderful opportunity to bring the best of Irish cinema to the West Coast of the USA, providing a platform for Irish filmmakers to showcase their work and connect with new audiences. The primary aim of the Center is to acquire a multi-purpose facility including a theater, library, social hall, museum and meeting rooms. Andy Clarke is a VFX supervisor with over 20 years experience in the industry. He has a background in animation and has directed 2 short films, one animated and one live action & VFX. His films have won a number of awards at festivals around the world. Cléa van der Grijn is an award winning visual artist and filmmaker .
The panel is a chance to engage with the vibrant Irish acting community in LA and learn what it takes to succeed internationally. She received her first Oscar-qualifying award at the 2018 Galway Film Fleadh for The Wiremen, with her most recent short film Worry World receiving the same Oscar-qualifying award in 2023. Born in Miami, FL from Cuban parents, Eric has been passionate about storytelling since a very young age. After graduating from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Eric has worked on multiple feature films, Television series and documentaries.
